We are here to serve an audience by empowering authentic and new voices.

New Hollywood Productions puts the commercial and the creative together so they strengthen each other, without either one conceding to an existing framework or an established track record.

Through this, we create a new playground, one that empowers the creator and inspires the audience.

An audience that is also me

Alex Ryan, Founder, New Hollywood Productions

I'm a producer and the founder of New Hollywood Productions. I've spent my career working in and alongside creative industries, brands and in project management.

I have a half-and-half brain. One half is deeply creative and loves making things. The other loves structure: managing, planning, organising. I'm passionate about both, and I'm at my best when I put them together.

For almost two decades I've worked in marketing and project management, understanding audiences and stakeholders, serving them, and creating the demand for the thing that solves their problems.

Over the last decade I've watched a different audience grow, and it keeps getting bigger. It wants values and authenticity. It wants complexity, solutions and empowerment, and most of all it wants to be inspired, to feel something resonate.

That's the audience I serve now, through the original projects I create and develop, and through the point of view and honesty I bring to producers, writers and production companies with the Development Read.

Who are we serving?

Ourselves and the ones around us.

I still use everything I've perfected in my career. But I'm not selling a product, I'm catering to an audience and the audience is us.

The humans. Us who feel like we're the only ones feeling what we feel, that no one could understand. Us who feel alone and afraid in a world that asks so much of us.

Us who don't only want to be entertained, we want to be seen, recognised, inspired.

Whether we consciously know it or not, we no longer want the stories that are black or white. We want them complex, layered, specific, one of a kind.

From pain to power

We've spent decades bonding over our pain. We needed those stories, it's how we recognised each other. Now that we have, it's time to bond over our power, our solutions and our creativity, and to inspire each other to show up as we really are, with the voice we have on the inside brought to the outside, unmodified.

As individuals, because we're individuals before we're creators, we're shifting to a more empowering place, a more daring place, a place where we start to see a little light cracking through. What we create has started to reflect that. It's a new wave of creation. It can take many shapes, sizes and forms, and be as many stories as there are people, but there still isn't a true space for it, or it isn't as popular as struggle and nostalgia.

And so, let’s create it.

The work I do sits at the middle point, where an artist's vision becomes clear again before any purely commercial agenda has diluted it.

I guide writers and producers to see their own voice and the things they aren't yet fully showing, and I hold that against what an audience hungry for authenticity actually wants. I still get to the market. I just don't start there.

Why now

For years I built a career in marketing and project management while secretly writing, building worlds and making films and shows in my head. I didn't say it out loud, let alone act on it.

Now it's all coming together. The precision and experience of that career serve the most childlike part of me, the part that creates, and the work is offered to an audience I'm part of. An audience that is also me.
